When Overthinking Takes Over
You may be overthinking throughout the day, struggling to stay consistent with daily functioning, or finding it hard to take care of yourself.
At night, you may replay interactions and worry about how others perceived you. You may also find yourself worrying about the future and the “unknown.”
I’m Michelle Krebo, LCSW, a licensed clinical social worker with 8 years of experience, licensed in New York. I provide therapy in Port Jefferson and online throughout New York State.
Why Work With Me
I meet clients where they are at.
Many people come to therapy because they want to be heard and understood. They want to feel calmer, stop overthinking, improve relationships, and feel supported.
My approach is gentle, insight-focused, supportive, validating, and client-centered. I really want you to feel that you have a voice when we are working together. Therapy should feel like a space where you can be yourself with no judgment and lots of support.
The work is not about giving you only tools or homework and skipping over what you actually need to talk through. It is about listening, helping you process your emotions, and working together to accomplish the goals we set.
Clients tend to choose me because I have years of experience, connect well with people, and help them feel comfortable.
My Approach to Therapy
I use a client-centered approach.
That means I like to let you guide our work. I help by being a constant support, listening without judgment, and helping you process your emotions.
I listen so I can help you connect things that maybe you are not seeing on your own. We may talk through depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationships, stress, trauma, self-care, boundaries, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, trichotillomania, or the fear that comes with the unknown.
My goal is for you to feel heard and understood while we work together toward feeling calmer, more supported, and more able to trust yourself again.
What Working With Me Is Like
Therapy with me is supportive and collaborative.
I work with clients by meeting them where they are at and giving them a space where they can be themselves with no judgment. I am not here to rush you, criticize you, or make you feel like you have to know exactly what to say.
In sessions, I listen closely and help you talk through what you are feeling. Sometimes that means processing emotions that have been building for a long time. Sometimes it means looking at relationships, self-care, boundaries, or the ways overthinking keeps you stuck.
Clients often come in second-guessing themselves. Over time, a small but meaningful change may look like starting to trust yourself again, sticking to your boundaries and limits, and taking better care of yourself.
I am a good fit for clients who like a client-centered approach and want space to talk through what they are carrying. I may not be the best fit for clients who only want tools or homework and do not want to talk through things.
Getting To Know Me
I have been practicing for 8 years in the private practice setting under Janice Martin. I work as a private clinical therapist and also supervise other therapists in our practice.
My experience includes supporting a wide range of clients, from adolescents to elderly adults, with many different backgrounds. I have worked with clients navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, trichotillomania, life transitions, and the emotional strain that healthcare workers often carry.
Outside of being a therapist, I am a mom of four, a wife, and very family oriented. I enjoy taking family trips, going out to dinner, and spending time at the beach.
I have also gone through depression myself, and I feel that experience helps me connect to my clients on another level.
Begin Therapy in Port Jefferson
Starting therapy can be a place to feel heard, understood, and supported.
You do not have to come in knowing exactly what to say. I like to let you guide our work, and we can begin by talking through what has been hard, what keeps coming up, and the goals you want to accomplish.
