When You’re Functioning, But Carrying More Than People See
You may be moving through your days feeling overwhelmed, stretched thin, and unsure how to balance everyone else’s needs with your own.
At night, you may replay conversations, worry about relationships, or wonder if you are doing enough. Even when you are functioning on the outside, you may be carrying quiet anxiety, grief, or self-doubt that keeps resurfacing.
You may feel stuck in old patterns, wanting change, but not knowing where to start.
I’m Marie Spaccarotella, LMSW. I provide therapy in Port Jefferson and online throughout New York State for young adults, older adults, senior citizens, professionals, and couples navigating anxiety, depression, grief, relationship stress, and life transitions.
Why Work With Me
Many of the people I work with want to feel calmer, stop overthinking, and understand why their emotions feel so overwhelming.
Couples often come in wanting to communicate more clearly, set healthier boundaries, and break patterns that keep repeating in their relationships.
Clients tend to choose me because I am both supportive and straightforward. I help them feel understood while also offering honest feedback and practical tools that can lead to real change.
If you want a therapist who is warm, grounded, and straightforward, this may be a good fit. If you are looking for someone very formal or distant, this may not be the right fit.
My Approach to Therapy
I help by creating a space where you feel understood, supported, and not judged, while also giving you honest feedback and practical tools that actually help you grow.
We slow things down so you can make sense of your emotions, understand your patterns, and communicate your needs more clearly. We may look at anxiety, grief, relationship stress, family dynamics, boundaries, or old patterns that keep repeating.
I use evidence-based tools from CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and client-centered therapy. I also draw from communication skills training and complicated grief work when helpful.
Insight is always paired with practical strategies so you can create real, sustainable change in your daily life.
What Working With Me Is Like
In sessions, I am approachable, compassionate, supportive, and empathic.
My approach blends validation with gentle, well-timed challenge. I keep the tone conversational, relatable, and human, while still helping you slow down, reflect, and communicate your needs with more clarity and confidence.
I offer practical tools and real-life strategies, not just insight, so you can make meaningful changes between sessions. Most of all, I work side-by-side with clients, helping them build confidence, healthier relationships, and a stronger sense of themselves.
Over time, a small but meaningful change may look like pausing before reacting and giving yourself a moment to choose how you want to respond.
Getting To Know Me
I’m a licensed master social worker with experience supporting adults through anxiety, relationship stress, family dynamics, grief, and major life transitions. Over the years, I have worked in community mental health and private practice, helping clients build emotional resilience, strengthen boundaries, and create healthier communication patterns.
My work is grounded in practical tools, compassionate insight, and a collaborative therapeutic space that empowers clients to make meaningful, lasting change.
Outside of being a therapist, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I love animals and have three giant breed dogs. I also love the beach.
