When You’re Trying to Hold Everything Together
You may be juggling work, family, relationships, and daily responsibilities while struggling to find balance.
It can be hard to create routines, make time for yourself, or understand what you are feeling. You may know something is bothering you but have trouble putting it into words. Over time, that can affect how you communicate with the people you care about and how you speak to yourself.
I’m Leana Silipo, LMSW. I provide therapy in Port Jefferson and online throughout New York State for teenagers, young adults, LGBTQIA+ clients, men, and new mothers navigating anxiety, identity, relationships, low self-esteem, and neurodivergence.
Why Work With Me
I take time to get to know you, your history, and what actually works for you.
My style is warm and nonjudgmental, but I am also honest and direct. I gently challenge your thoughts, encourage you to look at things differently, and check in often to see whether what we are doing is working or if we need to change things up.
I work especially well with clients who are neurodivergent or feel like their brain does not work the way everyone else’s seems to.
If you are not interested in making meaningful changes in how you think, communicate, or relate to yourself, my approach may not be the right fit.
My Approach to Therapy
I believe therapy should be flexible because what you need can change from week to week.
Sometimes we may use an activity, game, or mindfulness exercise in disguise. Other times, you may need to talk through what is in your head, problem-solve something specific, or simply have a place to slow down.
I draw from DBT, mindfulness, and narrative therapy, but I do not believe in forcing one approach.
My goal is to help you challenge negative self-talk, remove shame and guilt, and become more confident and kind to yourself.
What Working With Me Is Like
Therapy with me is collaborative, honest, and adaptable.
I can only work with what you give me, and I understand that trust cannot be rushed. I want you to feel comfortable telling me the truth.
Sometimes you need to talk for 50 minutes. Sometimes you need help problem-solving. Sometimes you may have nothing left to give after a draining day or week.
Therapy is for all of those things. We just have to work together to see what works for you.
Getting To Know Me
I have three years of clinical practice experience and previously worked in housing case management at a local nonprofit.
My own experiences with new motherhood, identity, and difficult family relationships have also shaped how I understand belonging, relationships, and the pressure people can carry.
Outside of being a therapist, I enjoy writing, painting, reading, and listening to podcasts about true crime, mysteries, and history. I am also a mom to a one-year-old boy.
Begin Therapy in Port Jefferson
You do not have to know exactly what you need from therapy before you begin.
What you need may look different from week to week. Sometimes you may need to talk, sometimes you may need help problem-solving, and sometimes you may simply need a place to slow down.
