When You Feel Overwhelmed and Stuck in the Same Patterns
You may be trying to manage school, work, relationships, or responsibilities at home while feeling overwhelmed underneath it all.
You might replay conversations, worry about what comes next, or feel stuck in patterns you want to change. You may also be grieving a loss or trying to understand why your mood has shifted.
I’m Gabrielle Richards, LMSW. I provide therapy in Port Jefferson and online throughout New York State for adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, stress, grief, mood changes, relationships, and life transitions.
Why Work With Me
Many of the people I work with want to feel less overwhelmed, better understand themselves, manage their emotions, and improve their relationships.
My style is gentle, insight-focused, practical, and supportive. I create a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where you can speak openly while also looking at patterns that may be keeping you stuck.
I work especially well with clients who want to better understand themselves and are open to trying new ways of coping. If you are looking for treatment specifically for complex PTSD or sexual abuse, I may not be the right fit.
My Approach to Therapy
I start by getting to know what has been going on and what you hope will feel different.
Together, we talk through what you are experiencing, look at patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and find ways to cope that work for you.
I draw from psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy based on your needs. You do not have to have everything figured out before you begin. We can work together at a pace that feels manageable.
What Working With Me Is Like
In sessions, I am gentle, supportive, practical, and willing to challenge patterns when it is helpful.
I listen closely and help you talk through what you are experiencing. We may explore anxiety, stress, grief, relationships, emotional reactions, or patterns that continue to come up.
Building a strong rapport is an important part of the work we do together. Over time, change may look like noticing a pattern sooner and choosing a different way to respond.
Getting To Know Me
I have more than five years of experience providing therapy to children, adolescents, and adults facing emotional and behavioral challenges.
My professional background includes private practice, residential facilities, and hospital settings.
Outside of being a therapist, I enjoy reading, spending time with loved ones, and finding new places to explore.
