When Your Emotions Feel Hard to Understand or Manage

You may be having a hard time understanding what you are feeling or finding that your emotions affect your sleep, eating, relationships, or day-to-day life.

You may also feel caught in the same thought patterns over and over again. For couples, it may be difficult to communicate needs and emotions or set boundaries that feel clear to both people.

I’m Dylan Bass, LMSW. I provide virtual therapy throughout New York State for queer and trans clients and couples exploring non-monogamy who want support with emotional regulation, identity, trauma, communication, and mental health concerns.

Why Work With Me

My approach is warm, welcoming, direct, and collaborative.

I work especially well with clients who want a therapist who is part of the LGBTQIA+ community, approaches concerns through an intersectional lens, and understands the importance of trauma-informed care.

Your input matters in therapy. I want us to work together to understand what you need, what you want to focus on, and what feels useful to you.

If you are looking for a therapist to make all the decisions for you, my approach may not be the best fit.

My Approach to Therapy

I don’t like to think of therapy as me “helping” you.

I see it as a space where we work together to explore which tools and resources will be useful to you as you continue your mental health journey.

I want you to be able to show up exactly as you are. My goal is to create a space that feels safe, validating, affirming, and celebratory while giving you room to explore your needs and goals.

I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy in our work together.

What Working With Me Is Like

In sessions, I am direct, insight-focused, supportive, and willing to challenge patterns when it is helpful.

At the same time, meeting you where you are is important to me. We can explore your emotions, the patterns that keep coming up, and what you want from therapy together.

For couples exploring non-monogamy, we may focus on communicating needs and emotions more clearly and setting boundaries.

A meaningful change can be simply recognizing and understanding your own emotions more clearly.

Getting To Know Me

I have experience providing care to people of different ages in private practice, public schools, and community health centers.

My own experiences as a queer, non-binary person inform the way I approach therapy and the importance I place on affirming, intersectional care.

Outside of being a therapist, I spend a lot of time reading, writing, and hanging out outside with my dog.
