When You Keep Ending Up in the Same Painful Patterns

You may be trying to understand why you keep ending up in relationships that feel unhealthy, confusing, or painful. You might wonder what you are doing wrong, even when part of you knows there is more to the story.

For many of the people I work with, these patterns connect to relationships they saw or had growing up. You may have learned to suppress or disregard your feelings, or to question whether they mattered at all.

I’m Amanda Mazzone, LCSW. I provide therapy for young adults and adults in New York who are working through trauma, anxiety, relationship patterns, domestic violence, and the impact of early childhood trauma.

Why Work With Me

Many of the people I work with have struggled with significant trauma in childhood, adulthood, or both. They may be trying to figure out why they continue to end up in relationships that are abusive or unhealthy. They may want to calm constant anxiety, stop ruminating, or process early childhood trauma and relationships in a space that feels safe enough to say what has been hard to say.

My work is direct, gentle, insight-focused, and practical. I provide a safe environment to discuss feelings you may have been taught to suppress or disregard. I also educate in session, because understanding what is actually happening can bring comfort and a pathway forward.

If you are committed to your healing journey and want honest, validating, practical, and trauma-informed support, this may be a good place to begin.

My Approach to Therapy

I want to help you feel safe and supported as you explore uncomfortable feelings.

I can educate you on trauma and teach you how to manage these symptoms. We may look at anxiety, rumination, obsessive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, relationship patterns, boundaries, and the ways early experiences are still affecting your life now.

I use CBT, EMDR, EMDR 2.0, Brainspotting, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, C.R.A.F.T., and mindfulness. I may also recommend books, podcasts, or other materials for continued learning outside of the session.

The goal is to help you understand what is actually happening, find your inner voice, and set boundaries with others.

What Working With Me Is Like

In sessions, I am supportive and validating, but I am also honest and expressive. Many of my clients have never really been validated for the terrible things they have gone through. So part of the work is creating a safe space where your experience can be said out loud and taken seriously.

I also use humor when it fits, because therapy can be serious without feeling cold or overly clinical. Together, we may notice why certain patterns keep recurring in your relationships, anxiety, self-confidence, or need to be perfect. We may work on calming constant anxiety, reducing rumination, and understanding why certain situations feel so hard to move through.

Over time, clients often begin to recognize their worth. They slowly start to take up space, advocate for themselves, and trust that their feelings matter.

Getting To Know Me

I have worked as a clinical social worker for 14 years. For the past 10 years, I have helped run a program for mandated perpetrators of domestic violence. I have also worked as a visit supervisor and family coach for families who needed supervised visits with their children.

These experiences have shaped how I understand trauma, unhealthy relationships, domestic violence, accountability, and the importance of helping people understand what is actually happening. I enjoy creating groups tailored to my clients' needs, including a winter therapeutic book club where we discuss books on trauma.

Outside of being a therapist, I am a dog mom to a beautiful black Pomeranian named Luna. I am also an avid reader, meditator, video game player, and lover of stand-up comedy.
