When You’re Trying to Keep Up, But Feeling Burned Out
You may feel overwhelmed and stressed from trying to keep up with everything expected of you. School, work, family life, finances, relationships, and responsibilities can start to feel like too much.
You might feel anxious or depressed, lost, or without a clear sense of purpose. At night, your mind may go to paying bills, choices you have made, or whether you made the right decisions in life.
You may want to feel less anxious, stop overthinking, improve your relationships, and feel more connected. More than anything, you may want to feel cared for, heard, understood, validated, and not judged.
I’m Alyssa Atkins, LCSW. I provide telehealth therapy throughout New York for young adults, professionals, college-aged clients, adults, and seniors who are navigating anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic illness, grief, loss, life transitions, relationship concerns, and burnout.
Why Work With Me
Many of the people I work with are looking for a safe space that gives them hope that life will get better.
They want someone who listens with unconditional positive regard and validates their experiences in this world. They want compassion, care, healing, and someone to cheer them on and be on their team. Clients do not want to be judged, and that is very important.
My style is warm, gentle, supportive, validating, and insight-focused. I come across as caring, reliable, and understanding. I do not judge. I believe clients know what is best for them, and I help them come to their own conclusions about their lives.
If you are looking to improve your life, find more compassion for yourself, appreciate humor, love human connection, and want to feel better, this may be a good fit.
My Approach to Therapy
I provide a warm, gentle approach and try to really get to know my clients and understand their life experiences.
I believe clients are the teachers of their own lives. I am there to help them process, navigate, recognize, and feel supported while they come to their own conclusions about their life.
I use CBT, DBT skills, psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, ACT, motivational interviewing, and client-centered therapy. These approaches can help clients regulate emotions, understand why they may think or feel a certain way, and explore how their environment may be impacting them.
My style is collaborative and meaningful. I use humor to help lighten sessions at times. I can be light and airy or serious and deep, depending on what work we are doing and what best meets your needs.
What Working With Me Is Like
In sessions, I am gentle, warm, kind, supportive, validating, practical, and insight-focused. I may challenge patterns when needed, but always with care.
I assess your needs and goals for therapy and use my skills to help you achieve the results you are looking for. I build trust and cultivate care and compassion to help you achieve whatever you are looking for.
We may work on anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic illness, grief, loss, relationships, financial stress, burnout, or life transitions. We may also explore how to express emotions more healthily, take control of our thoughts, and become nicer and kinder to ourselves.
Over time, clients often improve their mood, start doing things they love, find more meaningful connections, and gain more confidence. They often find more compassion for themselves and discover deep strength in themselves.
Getting To Know Me
I have 7 years of clinical experience and 9 years of experience, including an internship. My background includes nursing home settings, clinical settings, Stony Brook University CAPS counseling, private practice, supervision, and administrative work. I have supported clients across different life stages, including people managing anxiety, depression, chronic illness, grief, burnout, relationship stress, and life transitions.
Outside of being a therapist, I love animals, reading, learning, growing, nature, the sun, and warmth.
